About
Winona Nathania

Winona has been exposed to different cultures and people throughout her life in Indonesia, which has influenced the way she sees the world. Since discovering her passion for the visual arts in elementary school, Winona has worked to hone her conceptual thinking and sketching skills by enrolling in art programmes and becoming a part of creative teams. Winona travelled to Singapore to study at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in order to advance both her love of illustration and her hopes for a future career in the arts.

Winona actively engaged in many design competitions while she was a student at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, where her entry, "Merlion on Bay," won third place in the 2019 Schneider Electric Singapore 54 Squares of Life Design Competition. She was chosen to compete in the SCS Interschool Competition 2020 and the BR Metal Red Packet Design Competition 2021 as one of the finalists. Her "Kembang Tujuh Rupa" was chosen as one of the pieces of art to be featured at the Laskar Pelangi Exhibition 2020 in order to reflect the lovely cultures of Indonesia.

The Mooncake Packaging Competition 2021 by Packaging Hub Singapore is another contest Winona has won. This contest was a step in Winona's aesthetic exploration of packaging design. Winona's final semester project, Wounds of a Yellow Lamb, has been chosen to be displayed at The Grad Expectations 2022 upon receiving her diploma. The project's final product is a book that discusses the history of racism's negative effects on Chinese Indonesians and their present-day well-being.

Winona contributes to society by working on projects that address pressing societal issues like racism, euthanasia, PTSD, and depression. She wants to offer many viewpoints through her pieces, whether they come from the victims or the artist herself. Her endeavours ultimately aim to increase awareness of various social concerns and encourage people to empathize with them.

Throughout her artistic journey, Winona has worked on projects that dealt with the creation of picture books, UI/UX design, service design, visual effects, and stop-motion animation, expanding her knowledge and abilities in the visual arts. Winona's daily activities include watching movies and listening to music, which serve as her artistic inspiration.

Winona has completed her internship at Broadway Malyan Singapore, where she worked in the graphic design division. Her duties there included designing stationery and merchandise for the client's company branding, developing illustration designs for a website for a learning platform, and collaborating on the creation of an interactive and illustrated creative district tourism map. She learned a lot about the business of the industry and the value of creative people working together.

Recently, Winona has completed her 3 month internship at The Gentlemen's Press, where she gained exposure to the world of printing. Upon her internship, Winona had the opportunity to learn about the technicalities of letterpress printing as well as enhancing her design skills while getting involved in various projects. Her works included creating designs for in-house products such as vintage posters and greeting cards. Other projects included creating custom designs for client's wedding invitations and stationeries. From there, Winona developed her love and passion to create something that can contribute to other people's happiness.

As of now, Winona is currently enrolled in the NAFA degree programme where she is studying design practice. With the help of the service design module and creative peers, she is eager to expand her knowledge and collaboration abilities.
